3-star historic town-centre hotel with dog-friendly amenities and a restaurant sourcing local produce

Historic Building & Rooms

The Old Vicarage Hotel & Restaurant is one of the oldest buildings in Bridgwater, with sections dating back to the 14th century. Extensive renovations completed in 2019 updated 9 of the bedrooms while preserving original features such as wig cupboards and fireplaces. The property offers 18 uniquely styled en-suite bedrooms, including a King Suite with a four-poster bed and a separate seating area.

Dining

The on-site restaurant serves lunch and evening meals using locally sourced ingredients and seasonal menus, with highlights including steaks cooked to preference and a popular Ocean Platter. A continental breakfast buffet is available each morning alongside a cooked-to-order full English breakfast, including homemade blueberry muffins. The property also hosts an outdoor pizza oven in the garden during warmer months.

Pet-Friendly Amenities

The hotel provides dog-friendly rooms furnished with a dog bed, treats, and water bowls at check-in. Pet bowls and pet baskets are available throughout the property, and the garden offers a secure space for dogs to relax. Staff routinely spoil canine guests with additional attention and breakfast treats from the kitchen.

Location & Nearby Attractions

Situated off the M5 at Junction 24, the hotel is a 5-minute walk from the town centre and directly opposite St Mary's church. Cheddar Gorge, Wells Cathedral, Exmoor National Park, and the city of Bristol are within a 25-minute drive. On-site parking is available (limited spaces, narrow entrance) and free street parking is available after 6pm and all day Sunday.

Entertainment & Events

The hotel regularly hosts paranormal nights, live music performances, and themed dinner nights. Guests also have access to a tour or class about local culture and a cooking class. The walled garden and conservatory double as a reception space for wedding parties of up to 82 seated guests, with use of a marquee for evening celebrations.

“The Old Vicarage feels like stepping into a well-loved story, its historic charm thoughtfully preserved alongside modern comforts. I found myself drawn to the genuinely welcoming atmosphere, where the team readily shares insights and ensures a comfortable stay, even arranging secure bike storage for cycling guests. The dining experience is a highlight, with delicious, well-prepared meals, from evening pizzas to a hearty breakfast, all presented in this characterful, almost quirky, building.”
